God Never Disappoints

Scripture Focus: Jeremiah 2:13

Have you ever eaten something so often that you craved it constantly? You could eat it every day, shoot maybe even multiple times a day. There was a season in my life when I lived on Oodles of Noodles. It filled me for a while… until it didn’t. Eventually my palate matured, and what once satisfied me no longer did.

That’s how spiritual growth works too.

There are seasons when the things of this world seem fulfilling: relationships, attention, success, comfort, distractions. For a moment, they meet a need. But over time, we realize they never truly satisfy. The hunger returns. The thirst remains.

God speaks directly to this in Jeremiah 2:13:

“For my people have done two evil things: They have abandoned me—the fountain of living water. And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns that can hold no water at all.”

When we look for fulfillment outside of God, we’re drawing from containers that leak. They promise satisfaction but never deliver. Only God is the fountain of living water. He is the source that never runs dry.

Spiritual maturity doesn’t mean we stop having needs; it means we learn where to take them. As our faith grows, our appetite changes. What once sustained us no longer will, and God invites us deeper; He invites us to drink from Him daily, not just every now and then.

I have good news for you today: God never disappoints. That job may disappoint. That boyfriend/girlfriend may disappoint. Your children, your BFF, even your pastor may disappoint. BUT GOD NEVER EVER DISAPPOINTS!! When we come to Him hungry, He fills us. When we come to Him thirsty, He refreshes us. And unlike the world, He never leaves us empty.

Reflection Questions:

What are some “cracked cisterns” you may have been drawing from for fulfillment?

How has your spiritual appetite changed as you’ve grown in faith?

What would it look like to intentionally seek God as your daily source?

Prayer

Father, forgive us for the times we’ve searched for fulfillment in things and in people that cannot satisfy. Help us to recognize the empty cisterns we’ve relied on and turn back to You; the fountain of living water. Deepen our hunger for You and teach us to find our satisfaction in Your presence alone. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
