Scripture:
“Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.” ~Proverbs 4:5
In this verse, Solomon doesn’t offer wisdom as a suggestion, but as a priority. “Get” implies intentional pursuit. There's that word again "intentional". As believers, WE MUST BE INTENTIONAL!
Intentional about attending church.
Intentional about tithing.
Intentional about serving.
Intentional about saving.
Intentional about loving others.
Intentional about our eating habits.
Intentional about our thought life.
We are to intentionally pursue wisdom; it's not something we stumble upon accidentally; it is something we must seek on purpose. Understanding follows wisdom, giving us clarity not just about what to do, but why to do it.

Wisdom is the ability to apply God’s truth to everyday life. Understanding is the insight that keeps us steady when our emotions try to run all over the place and decisions feel heavy. Together, they guard our hearts and guide our steps. Without them, we may move quickly but foolishly. And I don't know about you, but I had enough foolish days, can I get an amen! With wisdom and understanding, we may move slower, but we move with confidence and peace.
James 1:5 tells us: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. God invites us to freely ask for wisdom, but we must also value it enough to pursue it. That pursuit looks like listening before reacting, praying before deciding, and staying anchored in God’s Word rather than our own opinions.
When we choose wisdom, we choose alignment. When we gain understanding, we gain direction. And when we hold tightly to both, our lives begin to reflect God’s order, not confusion.
Reflection Question:
What decision or area of your life right now requires you to pause and intentionally seek God’s wisdom and understanding?
Prayer:
Father, help me to value wisdom more than quick answers. Help me to embrace wisdom, to cherish wisdom. Teach me to seek Your understanding above my own, because Your ways are higher Lord. Guard my heart from haste and lead me in Your truth. I choose wisdom today and I choose to
trust You to direct my path. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
