Isn’t it amazing how your faith can feel so strong in certain areas? You're just minding your business, trusting God and BOOM!!!! Something unexpected comes along and shakes you to the core, challenging the very thing you've been believing Him for.
In times like these, God reminds us:
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”— Deuteronomy 30:19
Choose life.

As believers, we are not promised a life without challenges. In fact, Jesus tells us:
“In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” -John 16:33
Scripture calls these moments tests, trials, and tribulations. We may call them storms or valleys, but God uses them all for His purpose.
"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. -James 1:2–3
Trials are not meant to destroy us. When surrendered to God, they refine us.
So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world. -1 Peter 1:6-7
It has been said that "trials are like God’s gym; a place where we are broken down in order to be built up."
Throughout Scripture, we see this truth lived out. Joseph endured betrayal and imprisonment. Moses faced rejection and opposition. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood firm in the fire.
Each one faced moments that could have shaken their faith—but God used those very trials to refine them.
And the same is true for us today.
Whatever is trying to shake your faith right now, God can AND will use it to grow you, to mature you, to strengthen you, and to build you up. What feels like a setback may very well be a setup for deeper faith and greater purpose.
Stand firm and trust God.
We will not be shaken!
Prayer:
Lord, help us to choose life even in the midst of trials. Strengthen our faith when it feels shaken and remind us that every test is an opportunity for growth. Build us up, refine us, and help us stand firm in You. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
Discussion Questions:
What is something you are currently facing that has tested or shaken your faith, and how can you choose to trust God in it?
Looking back, how has God used a past trial to strengthen or grow you?
